BBC TV Workshop

All Year 6 & 7 classes had the opportunity to take part in a workshop hosted by the BBC. Two BBC employees and actors, Victoria and Oliver, visited our school and held the workshop in our gym. Our class, 7e, attended together with 7d after lunch, while the other classes had already attended earlier in the day. They started by explaining what the BBC is and went on by talking about all the different jobs on a film set. Then they started picking the roles for a short scene we were going to shoot. Five actors, four camera operators, four lighting technicians, two presenters, five make-up and hair artists, one producer, one director, one assistant director, and two sound technicians were needed. The actors went outside with Oliver to make up a scene and rehearse it, while the others began practising their roles, too. After approximately 20 minutes, the actors came back inside, and we filmed the first take. The scene was about a bank robbery and it was quite dramatic but also funny. We shot a second take in which the actors had to sing and rap instead of talking normally. At the end, we still had time to ask Victoria and Oliver questions about their lives as actors. The workshop was very interesting, and it was fun to be able to ask professional actors questions, since you do not usually get the chance to do that. We think that many more students would enjoy such a workshop!
